Sealing a Document

There are three ways to seal a document. You can create one directly from Windows Explorer, you can create one from a Microsoft Office application, or you can create one from within AbsoluteProof Desktop.

Opening an Absolute Proof Envelope

There are two ways to open an AbsoluteProof Envelope. You can open one directly from within Windows Explorer or you can open one from within AbsoluteProof Desktop.

Validating an AbsoluteProof Seal

You validate an AbsoluteProof Seal when you want to prove that the time-stamp associated with the document is accurate and the document has not been changed since it was sealed.

Viewing AbsoluteProof Envelope Contents

With AbsoluteProof Desktop, you can view the document stored in an AbsoluteProof Envelope using the registered viewer for the particular content type.

  1. 1. Open an AbsoluteProof Envelope. The envelope information will be displayed.
  2. 2. Click the View button.
  3. 3. If a viewer is available, the viewer will open to display the content. The viewer used depends on the content type (for example, Microsoft Word for a Word document).
  4. 4. If no viewer is available, a dialog will pop up asking you if you want to export the content. When content is exported, it is extracted from the Envelope and written to your disk. If you want to export, click Yes.
  5. 5. A File Save dialog will pop up. Specify where you would like the file exported and click OK. The file will be saved to the specified location.

Viewing AbsoluteProof Seal Detail

With AbsoluteProof Desktop, you can view information about the AbsoluteProof Seal stored in the current AbsoluteProof Envelope.

  1. 1. Open an AbsoluteProof Envelope. The envelope information will be displayed.
  2. 2. On the File menu, click the View Seal Detail button.
  3. 3. The Seal Detail dialog will pop up displaying the Seal detail.

Exporting a Document

You can export (extract) the document contained in an AbsoluteProof Envelope to your disk. This is useful if you want store or manipulate the document independent of AbsoluteProof Desktop.

  1. 1. Open an AbsoluteProof Envelope. The envelope information will be displayed.
  2. 2. On the AbsoluteProof Desktop File menu, click Export Document.
  3. 3. A File Save dialog will pop up. Specify where you would like the document exported and click OK. The document will be saved to the specified location.

Exporting an AbsoluteProof Seal

You can export (extract) the AbsoluteProof Seal from an AbsoluteProof Envelope and save it to your disk. This is useful if you want store or manipulate the Seal independent of AbsoluteProof Desktop.

  1. 1. Open an AbsoluteProof Envelope. The envelope information will be displayed.
  2. 2. On the AbsoluteProof Desktop File menu, click Export Seal.
  3. 3. A File Save dialog will pop up. Specify where you would like the AbsoluteProof Seal exported and click OK. The AbsoluteProof Seal will be saved to the specified location.

Importing an AbsoluteProof Seal

You use the Import Seal operation when you want to create a new AbsoluteProof Envelope from a document and corresponding Seal file stored on your computer.

  1. 1. On the AbsoluteProof Desktop File menu, click Import Seal. The Import Seal Dialog will pop up.
  2. 2. Specify the location of the document, corresponding Seal file, and the name of the AbsoluteProof Envelope you want to create.
  3. 3. Click OK, and the requested AbsoluteProof Envelope will be created and displayed on the AbsoluteProof Desktop Main WIndow.

Managing Preferences

AbsoluteProof Desktop has a variety of user preferences that you can set to tailor how the application operates.

  1. 1. Open AbsoluteProof Desktop from the Windows Start menu:
    Start -> All Programs -> AbsoluteProof Desktop -> AbsoluteProof Desktop
  2. 2. On the AbsoluteProof Desktop Options menu, click Preferences. The Preferences Dialog will be displayed.
  3. 3. Modify your preferences as desired and click OK to exit the dialog.
